As part of our sustainability commitments, we actively encourage businesses to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste. Every business is eligible for reduced costs of recycling bags, food waste, cardboard tape and collection, through our flagship partnership with First Mile.

Our partnership with First Mile also offers special pricing for all other waste streams, such as food, coffee grounds, glass & confidential waste.

Stats about recycling in Waterloo:

  • 155 businesses save money by using our First Mile partnership
  • 75% recycling rate with our First Mile partnership (in October 2025)
 
In our new 2026-2031 term, we are looking to expand our waste reduction work through developing new partnerships targeting waste streams specific to the different business sectors within Waterloo.
