We hate seeing spaces in Waterloo go to waste – for every unit left vacant we can think of a whole host of temporary creative uses that could enliven the street. Therefore, we launched Pretty Vacant – a scheme aimed at activating empty spaces whilst the landlord searches for a long-term tenant.
Our first successful Pretty Vacant project involved activating a double unit on Lower Marsh by bringing in local artists to display their work and a local skateboard retailer to sell their products. The temporary activation lasted 6 months before the unit attracted the interest of a sustainable greengrocer and cafè – in part due to the work of Pretty Vacant. The unit is now home to The Glitch, a creative workspace, cafe and arts venue.
If you want to get involved either as a tenant or a landlord please reach out to Harrie our project lead. For more information, read our landlord guide here.
