Theatre On The River presented the world premiere of Toy Soldier by Joseph Dewey & Helen Goodman at Waterloo East Theatre. Set in the Falklands in 2002, the thought-provoking play followed Jane (Lucy Bromilow) as she revisited her family farm and uncovered items from an Argentine soldier, Alejo (Nico Conde). The story explored the long-lasting effects of the 1982 conflict, focusing on Jane’s family dynamics and the radicalisation of her brother Billy (Michael Tantrum) by his extremist friend Mark (Spin Glancy). With a minimalist set and powerful performances, the play humanised the consequences of war. It was an emotional, gripping tale of survival and loss that captivated the audience and left a lasting impact.
