We are excited to announce that Liz Sillett has been appointed as the new Chair of WeAreWaterloo (WAW). With a rich history in the Waterloo community and a deep commitment to its growth and development, Liz is set to oversee WAW’s exciting future.
Liz’s journey in Waterloo began in 2001 with a bar shift at The Old Vic (TOV) Theatre during a Macy Gray album launch. “There was something special about TOV,” she recalls. Her initial connection with the theatre quickly blossomed into a full-time role encompassing external relationships, embedding her deeply in the local community.
“What makes Waterloo special is its incredible diversity within such a compact area,” Liz explains. Liz appreciates the area’s unique blend of historic streets, a bustling market, and a strong sense of community, describing it as having a village-like feel amidst the city’s energy.
Liz’s involvement with TOV and the local community highlighted the symbiotic relationship between the theatre and Waterloo’s residents. Her work emphasised the importance of fostering connections and supporting local initiatives, making her a well-known and respected figure in the area.
As the first female Chair of WAW, Liz is committed to promoting sustainability, enhancing security, and increasing inclusivity within the community. She aims to ensure that WAW continues to provide tangible benefits to businesses and residents, making Waterloo a safer, more inclusive, and vibrant place to live and work.
Liz’s leadership marks a new chapter for WAW. Her vision includes improving local security measures, supporting sustainability initiatives, and ensuring that WAW represents the diverse mix of people and enterprises in Waterloo. She is dedicated to fostering a united community where both businesses and residents thrive.
We look forward to the positive impact Liz will have as Chair of WeAreWaterloo, and we are excited about the future of our community under her leadership.
