Get a £5k Grant to Help You Reduce Waste

Calling Southwark’s High Street Businesses!

Thanks to Southwark Council’s Southwark Pioneer Fund, high street businesses can now apply for grants of up to £5,000 to implement waste reduction ideas that benefit both the environment and their business. Plus, market projects involving groups of traders can apply for grants of up to £10,000. Successful applicants will receive fantastic support from ReLondon’s expert business advisors to bring their ideas to life.

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible, your business must fall into one of the following categories and meet these criteria:

  1. Food and drink – eat in

    Businesses that prepare food/drink for customers to consume on the premises e.g.:

    • Pub/bar/taproom
    • Restaurant/diner
    • Café/coffee shop
  2. Food and drink – takeaway

    Businesses that prepare food/drink for customers to take away e.g.:

    • Takeaway shop/kiosk
    • Hot food market stall/van
    • Butcher/baker/deli
  3. Retail

    Shops with a physical location that sell the following consumer items e.g.:

    • Fashion
    • Homeware
    • Electricals/hardware
    • Grocer/cornershop/off licence
  4. High street services

    Services accessible to the general public, limited to e.g.:

    • Hairdressers/barbers
    • Beauty/nail salons
    • Drycleaners/tailors/
      launderettes
    • Pharmacies/opticians
  5. Markets

    Groups of traders looking to work on a joint project, led by one organisation such as a market operator or other business.

Business eligibility requirements
Businesses (or lead applicants for market projects) that fit into the categories above must also:

  • Be a small or medium sized business (fewer than 250 employees)
  • Be a B2C high street business, accessible to the general public
  • Have a physical trading address in the borough of Southwark
  • Be an established business registered on Companies House with a turnover of at least £10,000 in the last financial year
  • Market projects should include at least 4 market traders to work together. They should also include one lead applicant that meets these criteria who will complete the application and manage the grant if successful.
