Spring has officially arrived in Waterloo, and with longer days (finally), there’s plenty happening across the area this April. From theatre and live performances to brunches and creative workshops, here’s what’s coming up.
Theatre, performance & culture
There’s plenty for theatre lovers this month. The Old Vic hosts a bold new production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, starring Aaron Pierre and Giles Terera, running across April for a strictly limited season.
Over at the Young Vic, Broken Glass by Arthur Miller (running until 18 April) offers a powerful, intimate drama exploring identity, relationships and social tension, directed by Jordan Fein.
And from 16 April, Waterloo East Theatre presents Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story, a gripping musical retelling of a notorious true crime case. Celebrating 15 years since its London premiere, this intense two-hander combines a haunting score with razor-sharp storytelling, pulling audiences into a dark psychological drama of ambition, obsession and control.
For something a little different, head to the Calder Bookshop & Theatre on 11 April for Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope – a witty and thought-provoking solo performance celebrating the life of the iconic writer and performer.
Big energy nights & brunches
Looking for something a bit more lively? Tonight Josephine has you covered with Dabbers & Drag – a high-energy bingo night with plenty of sparkle – alongside their 90s & 00s Throwback Bottomless Brunch, packed with nostalgic tunes and bottomless drinks.
Meanwhile, over at Circe’s, their Day Party Brunch continues throughout April (running Saturdays until the end of May). Think bottomless brunch, but with a party twist.
And for something a little more laid-back, head to Molly Mc’s every Sunday for their brand new Trad Sessions. Kicking off from 3:30pm, expect live acoustic Irish music, a buzzing atmosphere and plenty of classic instruments – the perfect way to round off the weekend with a pint in hand.
Try something new
If you’re thinking about picking up a new skill or course, the Morley College Open Evening on 29 April is a great place to start. Held at the Waterloo Centre for Adult Education, you’ll be able to meet tutors, explore courses and get a feel for what’s on offer – all completely free.
Community Vibes
Over the Easter period, there’s also a great range of free community activities taking place at Living Space, hosted by BOST and Oasis Waterloo. Expect family-friendly fun and a chance to get involved locally – perfect for making the most of the school holidays.
