London in Bloom is about more than just flowers – it’s a celebration of people, place, and the character that grows between them. That’s why WeAreWaterloo BID is proud to be part of the 2025 competition, showcasing how Waterloo continues to grow greener, brighter, and richer in character year after year.
With the recent opening of Hercules Road, this year’s entry is a reflection of the work we’ve been doing across the area to make Waterloo a greener, more enjoyable place to live, work and visit.
Waterloo is now home to:
• Five major green spaces
• Nine parklets
• Dozens of planters and pocket parks dotted throughout the area
This work wouldn’t be possible without all of you – are Waterloo community. We’re so grateful to everyone who has helped, and continues to help, care for these spaces by getting involved through:
- Our weekly Rooted gardening club
- Edible Marsh workshops
- Community planting days throughout the year
We also want to say a huge thank you to our cleaning team, who work hard every day to keep Waterloo looking its best – from jet-washing Lower Marsh and removing graffiti, to scrubbing street furniture, and refreshing bins, making sure our public spaces stay clean and cared for.
Our London in Bloom route will be judged on 3 July, and we’d love for you to explore it yourself. Whether you’ve got 10 minutes on your lunch break or an hour to wander, take a walk through Waterloo’s green spaces – you might even find a new favourite lunch or meditation spot!
The judges will be following this route:
• Hercules Road – new plant beds
• Kennington Road – refreshed tree pits
• Baylis Road – a mix of planters and tree pits
• Lower Marsh – colourful stall planters and wooden boxes
• Emma Cons Gardens – revitalised back beds
• Secker Street – pavement planters and tree pits
• The Cut – palm trees and pavement planters
These spaces are a true team effort, and we’re especially grateful to Frances Ward, our fantastic gardener, and to Frankie and Val from our BID team, for their care and creativity in shaping this year’s entry.
Even small green changes can have a big impact – not just on how a place looks and feels, but on how we connect, belong, and experience an area. London in Bloom is a chance to recognise the often unspoken, everyday efforts that shape Waterloo’s sense of place, character, and community. So join in celebrating Waterloo’s unique character, and the everyday care that helps preserve it.
