We’re delighted to share that WeAreWaterloo has been awarded Silver in London in Bloom 2025 – in our very first year entering the scheme.
This award is a recognition of the work we deliver year-round as a Business Improvement District to keep Waterloo greener, cleaner and more welcoming for everyone who lives, works, studies and visits here.
Founded in 1967, London in Bloom celebrates communities that go the extra mile to care for their streets, parks and public spaces. In recent years, the scheme has expanded to recognise town centres, city centres and Business Improvement Districts – reflecting the vital role they play in shaping thriving neighbourhoods.
For Waterloo, achieving Silver in such a competitive field is a huge endorsement of our ongoing investment in the public realm and of the partnerships that power it.
This success also sits proudly alongside our Green Flag Community Award, secured for the third year running – the national benchmark for well-managed, accessible and well-loved green spaces. Together, these accolades show that our approach is working.
This award belongs to the whole Waterloo community.
Driven by:
- Our volunteers and local workers and residents who’ve joined our Rooted lunchtime gardening sessions and Edible Marsh workshops.
- Our brilliant cleaning team – Abdul and Leon – who are out daily jet-washing pavements, removing graffiti and refreshing street furniture.
- Frances Ward (Head Gardener), who maintains our planting and leads our greening programmes, alongside José, our team supervisor and gardener.
- Frankie Donnelly (Head of Operations) and Valerie Beirne (Head of Public Realm), who shape and deliver the long-term cleaning and greening strategy across the BID.
- Without the collective work and investment from our levy-paying businesses, Waterloo simply wouldn’t look or feel the way it does. The impact of this ongoing investment goes far beyond the visual, helping to support the local economy, strengthen pride in the area, and create a safer, more welcoming place for everyone who spends time here.
This is the power of a BID in action – collective investment delivering visible, long-term benefits for the whole community.
From planters and pocket parks to refreshed public spaces, our projects are dotted across the BID area. Take a look at our WeAreWaterloo green spaces map to see what we’ve delivered and maybe discover a new favourite lunch spot along the way.
