Swapfiets Comes to Waterloo – Say Hello to Worry-Free City Cycling

Looking for an easier way to cycle to work, get around Waterloo, or just enjoy the city on two wheels? Then head down to Hercules Road and meet Swapfiets  – the company behind the iconic blue-front-tyred bikes, on a mission to make cycling hassle-free, sustainable, and accessible.

Founded in the Netherlands, where cycling is part of everyday life, Swapfiets was created to take the stress out of owning a bike. Instead of buying one outright, you pay a simple monthly fee and get a high-quality bike. If anything goes wrong, they fix it, and if it can’t be sorted within 10 minutes, they’ll swap it. No extra charge. No faff. No stress.

Their new Waterloo home is located in one of the railway arches on Hercules Road, right beside a green pocket park recently delivered through one of our greening and public realm projects. This little oasis – created from former parking bays – reflects Swapfiets’ own values: community-minded, sustainable, and built for everyday use.

The team soft-launched on August 1st and are already settling into the neighbourhood. In the coming weeks, they’ll be renovating the space further to create a welcoming, open hub – not just a place to collect a bike, but somewhere to chat, learn about cycling, and feel part of Waterloo’s growing active travel culture.

Curious to find out more? Pop down to Hercules Road and meet the team – they’re approachable, knowledgeable, and always happy to answer questions or chat about how it all works.

Special Offer for Waterloo

To celebrate their arrival, Swapfiets is offering 20% off your subscription with the code SWAP25, redeemable online at swapfiets.co.uk.

Part of a Greener, More Active Waterloo

We’re excited to welcome Swapfiets to the neighbourhood as part of a growing push for active, sustainable travel in Waterloo. From everyday commuting to accessible bike services, we’re working to make it easier than ever to get around by bike. That includes our regular Dr Bike sessions on Lower Marsh – offering free lunchtime bike checks and basic repairs to keep local riders moving safely and confidently.

So whether you’re new to cycling or just want a more reliable way to get around, visit Swapfiets at 192 Hercules Road and discover a ‘worry-free’ way to ride.
