Southwark Station to Close During Weekday Daytimes from 17 August

Southwark Station will be closed Monday to Friday, between 9:45am and 4:15pm, from 17 August until 11 September 2026 to allow major demolition works as part of the Southwark Over Station Development.

The station will remain open outside these hours, including during the morning and evening peak periods and throughout weekends.

The temporary closure is necessary because demolition is taking place immediately next to the station ticket hall. The level of noise generated by the work would make it unsafe to operate the station, as it could interfere with safety announcements and staff radio communications.

Passengers travelling on the Jubilee line are advised to use Waterloo Station, around a five-minute walk away. Southeastern rail users should use Waterloo East or the National Rail concourse at Waterloo. The closure has been scheduled after the reopening of Waterloo East on 16 August to minimise disruption.

Passengers requiring step-free access can use Waterloo Station for Jubilee line services, or travel by bus 40 or 63 from Southwark Station to Blackfriars and continue their journey from there.

Passengers are encouraged to check the TfL Go app or Journey Planner before travelling, as alternative routes may be quicker depending on their destination.
