Our area is home to a number of charities, large and small, supporting causes ranging from child welfare to international aid. WeAreWaterloo is committed to building relationships between local businesses, charities and community groups.
Waterloo Foodbank Scheme
With over 20 businesses now participating in the scheme, our Foodbank collections continue to grow. Businesses can sign up and have a crate delivered to their business premises and they can fill it with donations for the Foodbank (a top three most wanted items is given as guidance). On set collection periods, usually around five a year focused on big events like Christmas, the boxes are collected by Eden Caterers, a local company whose vans are always seen about the Waterloo area. Eden take the full collection boxes and deliver them to the Foodbank. Amazingly, the Foodbank can also give an exact weight for the amount collected by each business.
In a recent press release by the Mayor of London, it was revealed that 1.5 million Londoners struggle to afford or access enough food. This statistic also includes 400,000 children, with 9% from our area. In addition, over the past few year, usage of the Waterloo Foodbank has increased to 77%, an all-time high. To get involved with the scheme and help respond to this local crisis, get in touch.
Additional, one-off collections can be made outside of these collection weeks if required.
Waterloo Community Events
WeAreWaterloo works with local community organisations on a number of events, such as the Waterloo Carnival. We work with local employee volunteers to help them prepare for this colourful celebration and to boost local employer involvement. You can find out more about the Waterloo Carnival here.
WeAreWaterloo has been matching the funding for TAP to donate readers in local restaurants and bars. Every £3 donation will be split equally between the 22 charities within the London Homeless Charities Group. Every penny will be spent on providing essential services here in London, helping rough sleepers to cope with the day-to-day but also to forge a path away from life on the streets. If you'd like to find out more, please email Alex. Visit TAP London's Page here.
Together At Christmas
Christmas can be a lonely time for some, so get involved in our annual festive appeal and help us continue to make a difference to the lives of local homeless, vulnerably housed and elderly people. We are encouraging businesses to donate gift items by hosting a collection box in your office. Our boxes will be delivered early November and collected in early December, ready for our gift wrapping sessions (dates to be provided as soon as location finalised). Last year's drive was a great success, and you can read about it here. Find out more about how to get involved here.
