New Business Cycle Hangars in Waterloo

Secure cycle parking is a key barrier to workplace cycling. To address this, WeAreWaterloo is supporting a new trial introducing business cycle hangars in Waterloo.

Lambeth Council’s Luuk van Kessel proposed renting cycle hangars to businesses at a commercial rate, helping fund residential spaces and encouraging more people to cycle. With support from WeAreWaterloo BID, businesses expressed strong interest. Partnering with LockItSafe, the team developed a bespoke design and maintenance plan to ensure durability and accessibility.

The first three cycle hangars are now in place, in collaboration with the Sustains Us Partnership, as part of efforts to enhance Waterloo’s Climate Action Plan, Kerbside Strategy, and Air Quality Action Plan. The trial’s success will determine further rollout.

Early interest from businesses shows demand for secure cycle storage across London. This initiative highlights the power of partnerships and innovation in making cycling a practical choice.
