Making Space for Women is more than an events series – it’s a growing community for anyone committed to shaping a more equitable built environment.

Co-created by WeAreWaterloo BID and Build Studios, our roots are in Waterloo, but our reach is sector-wide. We bring together women and allies across architecture, planning, engineering, construction, design, and beyond to:
  • Connect with others who are shaping places and spaces.
  • Inspire & be inspired through honest conversations and shared stories.
  • Collaborate on ideas, projects, and solutions that push the sector forward.
  • Contribute by helping us shape future events, share experiences, and respond to consultations that matter.

We welcome women, men, and gender-diverse colleagues – equity requires everyone’s involvement. Whether you join us for a single discussion or become an active voice in the network, you’ll be part of a community that champions inclusivity, celebrates achievements, and pushes for meaningful change.

Upcoming event: Making Space for Women: Illuminating Safety

Join us for the sixth Making Space for Women event, Illuminating Safety, an evening exploring how safe and creative lighting can help shape a more welcoming and inclusive night-time city.
