Big Screen Evenings on Waterloo’s hidden high street
Lower Marsh Lates returned in 2025 and brought free, open-air cinema to the heart of Waterloo. On the last Thursday of June, July and August, our street turned into a friendly film hub with deckchairs, an on-site bar, exclusive trader offers and sing-along favourites – steps from Waterloo Station.
What is the project?
Lower Marsh Lates transforms an after-work evening into a shared experience: crowd warm-up from 5:30pm, film at 6:30pm, great street food and a feel-good, family-friendly atmosphere. It showcases the best of Lower Marsh – independent traders, local hospitality and a welcoming public realm – all wrapped around a big screen.
Who does it benefit?
The series brings new and returning audiences to the street, supporting traders and venues while giving residents, workers and visitors a reason to stay and enjoy Waterloo after hours. It boosts visibility for local businesses and strengthens community ties.
Impact in 2025
Thanks to our partnership with the GLA, we track the difference these nights make. Footfall rose above a typical Thursday each month:
Interest was strong online too: from June-September, event pages drew 8,500 views, around 40% of all website traffic in that period.
What’s next?
Lower Marsh Lates will be back with more film nights. Keep an eye on this page for announcements, themed offers and how to get involved.
