Residents across South Bank and Waterloo are being invited to take part in the new Living Green Challenge, a practical guide to local sustainability with simple ways to get involved – on your street, at your community garden, and even at your kitchen table. The booklet lays out easy actions and signposts to local groups, services and spaces, alongside a map of where to start nearby.
At the heart of the Challenge is an interactive ‘Living Green Map‘ that locates everything from green spaces and gardening clubs to borrowing libraries and repair support.
The booklet also points residents to practical, money-saving help:
-
Free, personalised energy advice at the LSBU Energy Advice Centre (drop-in Thursdays 10am–1pm, Clarence Centre) to cut bills and improve home efficiency.
-
Library of Things (Elephant & Castle) to borrow useful items – tools, cleaning kit, party gear – instead of buying new.
-
Cargo bike hire via Our Bike, regular Dr Bike tune-ups, and pointers to secure cycle parking, lessons, and repair events to help residents get cycling with confidence.
-
Air-quality know-how with live local data via Breathe London Communities and Airly, plus tips to protect health and reduce pollution.
-
Tree Guardian opportunities to adopt and care for local trees, supporting clean air and climate resilience.
-
Water-refill points and low-waste shopping options to cut single-use plastic – just look them up on the map and the website.
All of this sits within a shared ambition to create a fairer, greener neighbourhood by 2030, from making homes and public buildings more energy-efficient, to improving air quality through greener travel, building climate resilience in our streets and parks, and cutting waste through reuse and recycling.
