On 16 July 2025, Lambeth Council unveiled its new Growth Plan: People, Place, Purpose, a ten‑year strategy that pledges to create 20,000 jobs, deliver 10,000 homes and drive inclusive, sustainable growth across the borough. The launch event, hosted at the Grade II‑listed 76 Upper Ground on the South Bank, brought together more than 100 of Lambeth’s major employers, civic leaders and local partners.
The plan is built around four missions: developing world-class commercial hubs and thriving town centres; backing the creative industries, life sciences and clean-tech sectors; widening access to education and employment; and delivering high-quality homes in well-connected neighbourhoods. As Lambeth Council Leader Claire Holland put it, “These aren’t add-ons; they’re fundamental to who we are and the opportunities we want to create.”
WeAreWaterloo’s Head of Public Realm, Valerie Beirne, attended the launch to make sure Waterloo’s priorities-place-making, culture and community development, were part of the conversation and aligned with the borough’s plans. The focus on culture was reinforced by Alice Edwards, Lambeth’s Head of Culture and Creative Economy, who confirmed that a dedicated Creative Economy Strategy will be published this autumn.
For Waterloo businesses and residents, the plan offers new opportunities to collaborate with the borough on job creation, skills pathways and public‑realm investment. WeAreWaterloo will stay closely involved as the next steps unfold, working to turn these ambitions into tangible benefits on our side of the river.
