About the project
As part of its vision for a fairer, greener neighbourhood, South Bank and Waterloo Sustains Us is leading a community project to reconnect Waterloo with its watery heritage and create healthier streets that are more resilient to climate impacts.
Before Waterloo Station was built in 1848, much of this area formed part of the Lambeth Marsh, shaped by waterways such as the River Neckinger. Today the area around Cons Street, Windmill Walk and Greet Street faces flooding, air pollution, heat stress and limited green space. The project explores opportunities for public realm planting and sustainable drainage to absorb rainwater, reduce flood risk, cool streets, improve air quality and support biodiversity.
What to expect
- A short presentation by the design team at 6pm on Wednesday 29 April with time for questions.
- Engagement boards on public display in St John’s foyer during the drop-in sessions (9-5pm) so the public can review the proposals and leave feedback.
