WeAreWaterloo BID, in partnership with Lambeth Council and National Theatre Live, is bringing free outdoor theatre screenings to Lower Marsh this summer as part of the Mayor of London’s Summer Streets programme.
The first screening will take place on Saturday 25 July (5-8pm) with a free showing of Hamlet, starring Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera (Life of Pi), on the big screen. Visitors are encouraged to pick up food or drinks from one of Lower Marsh’s fantastic independent cafés, restaurants or bars, grab a deckchair and enjoy an unforgettable evening of Shakespeare in the heart of Waterloo. On 29 August (5-8pm), the series continues with Much Ado About Nothing, starring Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd), and concludes with Romeo & Juliet, on 26 September (5-8pm) starring Jessie Buckley and Josh O’Connor.
The screenings form part of a wider Summer Streets programme, made possible through £100,000 of funding from the Mayor of London’s Summer Streets Fund, which is helping transform Lower Marsh into an even more vibrant destination. Alongside expanded outdoor dining, the programme includes new festoon lighting, bunting, planting and a series of free cultural events in collaboration with National Theatre Live taking place throughout the summer.
Two further free screenings will take place on the final Saturdays of August and September, with full details to be announced soon.
