Most broken things don’t need replacing – they just need someone willing to try fixing them.
That’s the thinking behind LSBU’s new Repair & Learn Hub, a student-led initiative that’s changing the way we think about waste, engineering, and the value of the things we own.
Starting this week, LSBU engineering students are running free weekly repair sessions where the local community can bring broken household items to be diagnosed and fixed. But this is about more than just repairs—it’s about building a more sustainable future.
Too often, everyday items are thrown away simply because people don’t have access to the tools, knowledge, or confidence to repair them. The Repair & Learn Hub is here to change that by:
• Reducing waste and keeping products in use longer • Promoting circular economy thinking • Giving students real hands-on engineering experience • Supporting our local community
Every Wednesday from 11:00 – 16:00, students will assess items, diagnose faults, and attempt repairs under supervision – all while documenting the process so repair knowledge can be shared and built upon.
The 4-week pilot programme kicks off on 25th March at London South Bank University, with 10 diagnostic booking slots per session and walk-ins available later in the afternoon subject to capacity.
