WINTERREISE – Winter Journey
Franz Schubert set a sequence of 24 Wilhelm Müller’s poems as the text for his song cycle Winterreise. The cycle’s protagonist, The Wanderer, experiences ‘Sehnsucht’, that ‘desire for yearning’ so characteristic for romantic art and literature. Will he – in a final consequence of his self-giving (and self-effacing) love – arrive at his destination?
Mendelssohn Competition Prizewinner and celebrated baritone Jakob Schad, and award-winning pianist Parvis Hejazi will take their audience at the 1901 Arts Club on an adventure through Schubert’s stark, often abstract imagery, which chronicles an intense physical and emotional journey.
