Making Space for Women: Illuminating Safety

Join us and Build Studios this June for our next Making Space for Women event, where we explore how safe and creative lighting can support a thriving night time economy. From railway tunnels to viaducts, we’ll look at how investment in imaginative lighting transforms underused spaces that shape our streetscapes.

Concerns about women’s safety after dark are not new, and continue to influence how women move through cities at night. This session considers how thoughtful illumination, layered lighting, clearer sightlines, and artist‑led installations can reduce fear, enhance visibility, and strengthen a sense of belonging.

This event highlights how practical safety measures paired with creative design can turn overlooked routes into welcoming, vibrant public spaces that foster confidence, connection, and community wellbeing.
