Cultivating Community and Well-being: Archbishop’s Park Gardening Club

We are pleased to highlight the Archbishop’s Park Community Trust (APCT), a dedicated charity committed to preserving and enhancing Archbishop’s Park as a vital green space for the community. Focusing on health and well-being, APCT offers a welcoming Gardening Club every Friday from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, inviting local residents to engage in gardening activities, regardless of experience. The club is especially supportive of adults who have faced mental health challenges, providing a nurturing environment to connect with nature and others.

The Gardening Club has successfully developed several award-winning gardens and maintains diverse habitats within the park, including a wildlife area, summer meadow, pond, orchard, and apiary. These efforts not only beautify the park but also promote biodiversity and offer serene spaces for relaxation.

Each session begins with a discussion of the day’s tasks, which may involve planting, pruning, or maintenance work like sanding and repainting benches. Guided by trained staff, participants receive comprehensive instruction, ensuring both novices and seasoned gardeners feel confident in their contributions. The sessions conclude with a communal gathering for tea, cake, and conversation—a cherished tradition that fosters community bonds. Members often express appreciation for the opportunity to learn new skills, enjoy the outdoors, and build connections within their local area.

If you’re interested in joining or learning more about the Gardening Club, please contact Nicky, the Community Gardening Manager, at nicky.buley@outlook.com or call 07735 501 842. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to a community initiative that enriches both the environment and the well-being of its participants.
