A British boozer with an antipodean twist.

Owner Dave Gander has run The Stage Door for 14 years. Hailing from the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia, he has brought with him a certain sun-soaked exuberance that he encourages in his staff too.

On match days you’ll find small groups of football fans watching their team on Sky but the pub has much more to it than that.

It also attracts an eccentric mix of CEOs, IT geeks, locals and theatre types. They come here for its proximity to the Old Vic, not to mention the home-cooked food, great beers and pool table.

We come here in the winter, however, simply to enjoy a pint in cosy surroundings, and in the summer for the amazing roof terrace - the perfect way to catch some early evening sunshine.

Our little known fact about The Stage Door:
The Stage Door is mentioned in Samuel L Pepys’s diary. It was known then as the Half-Way Inn as it was a stop over when traveling from Westminster to London Bridge.
