If transport is your passion then this book shop is perfect for a quick browse when you‘re near Waterloo Station.

This amazing speciality book and model shop is stacked full of current, historical and nostalgic information about railways, aviation, buses and military and local history, writes Lesley Godbolt.

Its selection is so vast people have travelled from Australia and New Zealand to get the title or model they want.

Customers have also been known to spend hours browsing the shelves, according to manager Kerry Foster, who describers the shop as "like a little club".

The Railways section is the largest area of Ian Allan; with books and DVDs on everything from ‘Railways in Wartime’ to ‘London’s Secret Tubes’. The very popular ‘Driver’s Eye view’ DVDs of various railway and underground lines are bestsellers.

Ian Allan’s model section is also a sight to behold, with kits and accessories to build your own model railway, including miniature figures and foliage, available in store.

Our little known fact about Ian Allan Book and Model Shop:
