Lambeth Council are sharing plans to make improvements to Waterloo’s streets, encouraging people to walk, cycle, and wheel around Waterloo. The main Commonplace engagement site is available here. These plans aim to boost health and well-being, as well as helping our environment – these street improvements align with Lambeth’s Climate Action Plan, and our own Climate Action Plan and our joint Net Zero for Waterloo & South Bank Strategy – our mission to become a net-zero and climate-resilient borough by 2030.

From September 15th to October 20th, you can leave feedback on the following proposed schemes by Lambeth Council:

  1. Hercules Road’s Green TransformationThis is WeAreWaterloo’s own GLA funded project to introduce planting, green spaces, seating areas, and play equipment and large areas of redundant road space.
  2.  Cornwall Road Pavement Widening: Enhancing the pedestrian space outside The White Hart. Expect wider pavements, greenery, space for outdoor dining, and better accessibility.
  3. Stamford Street Improvements: Transitioning to a two-way motor vehicle closure, two-way cycling, adding dropped kerbs on both sides, creating pocket parks with greenery and seating, and elevating the pedestrian crossing to pavement level.
  4. Roupell Street Changes: More tree planting, street furniture, retaining the option for two-way cycling.
  5. Windmill Walk Upgrade: Pedestrianizing the stretch between Roupell Street and Brad Street, increasing greenery, leveling the surface for better accessibility, and expanding pedestrian space with a continuous footway on Roupell Street.
