We have some exciting news to share with you – Lambeth Council is on a mission to make our community a better place for everyone by becoming a Living Wage Place.

The Living Wage is an hourly wage rate that reflects actual living costs – it’s all about ensuring people get paid fairly for their hard work. Plus, it’s not just good for employees – it’s great for businesses too. Paying the Living Wage can boost a company’s reputation, make employees happier and more motivated, and even improve productivity. Win-win!

Lambeth Council are extending an invitation Lambeth employers to join them on Tuesday, 17th October 2023 from 9:00 – 12:00 at award-winning Vauxhall-based centre, The Foundry, at 17 Oval Way to celebrate their Lambeth Living Wage Place Breakfast Launch and learn how Lambeth can support accredited local employers. Book your spot here.

198 Contemporary Living Arts & Learning has been accredited as a living wage employer. This fantastic local gallery and art space is a place where everyone can come together and explore the beauty of art. Lucy Davies, the Director of 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning, expresses the value of treating workers right. She says, “Living Wage accreditation is like a stamp that shows we value our workers.” It’s a simple yet powerful way to show that appreciation. Lucy has some valuable advice for other Lambeth employers: “If you can do it, you should. We have a responsibility to each other.” She acknowledges that paying the London Living Wage might seem challenging at first, but it’s an investment in your workforce. It can actually save you money in the long run, especially on expenses like recruitment, which can get quite costly.

Thinking about becoming a Living Wage employer? Lambeth Council are available to support you every step of the way. They’re offering a three-year business grant to local businesses that commit to paying their employees the Living Wage, covering the cost of accreditation with the Living Wage Foundation. Just head over to https://bit.ly/lambeth-living-wage to find out more and register for this grant.

If you have any questions, contact the team on livingwage@lambeth.gov.uk and they will be more than happy to help.
